First up, we have Lilly Pitman. Based in the US, Lilly brings her background in events to her subsea recruitment role with DRIFT Offshore.
How did you get where you are today?
My career journey began when I was 15. I started working at a local pharmacy, where I spent seven years. Seeking new opportunities, I moved to Colorado and became an events director at a senior living community, a role I held for six years. Eventually, I felt the need for a lifestyle change and decided to return to my roots in sunny South Florida. I was looking for a fresh start and a career adjustment when I came across an opening at DRIFT. Initially, I was unsure if it would be the right fit for me since it was a completely new field. However, I quickly fell in love with the industry and the work here at DRIFT. Now, as September approaches, I am excited to celebrate my second year with the company, reflecting on a journey that has been both unexpected and rewarding.
What inspired you to join DRIFT?
My dad was behind the inspiration to join DRIFT. The subsea industry has always been a part of my life. Growing up, my dad worked for Perry in Jupiter, FL, building Perry ROVs like the Triton XL, XLS and XLX. Every year, I eagerly anticipated “Take Your Child to Work Day,” a highlight of my childhood. We’d start by watching a video of an ROV operating on a pipeline, with a whale swimming across the screen, which all of us kids thought was the coolest thing. Touring the facility in our hard hats, we got to see the intricate construction process of the ROVs. My dad was the Supervisor for the electrical assembly. We would spend most of the day in his section of the shop, where they built junction boxes and control cans. Watching the ROVs in action in the test tank within the integration lab was always the most exciting part of the day.
Fast forward to two years ago, an opening at DRIFT came up, and I jumped at the opportunity to be part of an industry I had known since childhood. Although it was a complete career change, taking that leap has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made. I’m proud to be part of DRIFT and look forward to continuing this incredible journey.

What happens in a typical working day?
A typical day at DRIFT is always an unexpected adventure. When you think of recruiting, it might seem straightforward: a client needs a role filled, you reach out to candidates, and then you fill the role by following a set of steps. But it’s far from that simple. Each day can take you on a different whirlwind. With so many diverse clients, candidates, and projects, unexpected challenges arise constantly. The dynamic nature of the job keeps things exciting and ensures that no two days are ever the same.
What is your favourite part about your job?
My favourite part of the job is the team I get to work with. We’re a small, close-knit group that feels like family, even though we’re spread across different parts of the world. We all get along exceptionally well and share a common mindset about the company and its success.
What is your proudest achievement at DRIFT so far?
My proudest achievement at DRIFT is participating in the Subsea Expo in Aberdeen this past year. This event is a cornerstone for the subsea industry, attracting professionals and companies from around the world. Being asked to attend was a significant accomplishment for me. Representing DRIFT at such a high-profile event not only validated my hard work but also filled me with great pride, knowing that I was trusted to contribute to our team on such a prominent stage.
When not at work, where will we find you?
When I’m not at work, you can find me absorbed in outdoor adventures. Whether I’m mountain biking through trails, fishing on the boat, canoeing down the Loxahatchee River, or enjoying a family BBQ, I make the most of being in nature. I love getting lost on a trail and exploring new paths. If it involves being outside, I’m all in, and I’m never afraid to get a little dirty in the process.
What advice would you give someone starting out in the subsea industry?
The subsea industry can be a fast-paced market that can sometimes feel overwhelming. My advice is to rely on the people around you for mentorship and guidance. Remember that everyone in this field is going through similar challenges, so you can relate to and learn from their experiences. Building strong relationships is crucial; networking with colleagues, clients, and mentors will provide essential support, insight, and opportunities throughout your career.
